Artists’ Statement
My work is entirely influenced by the Coast and Moors of North Yorkshire with its big skies and vast open spaces.  Here there is everything to see, the changing of the seasons, the drama of storms, the harshness of the winter and the everchanging horizons. I paint primarily in oil, and work quickly and intuitively building up thin layers then a thick application of paint incorporating mark making techniques. The images come from suggested fragments of memory and I try to capture the spiritual and physical elements inherent this unique landscape.
