Artists’ Statement
I draw and paint from the landscape, figure and still-life in oil paint, acrylic, watercolour, pastel and charcoal. Painting for me is a search for meaning. I aim to make a ‘form’ through construction, discovery and connecting what is outside myself with that which is within. The process allows for the mystery of my subject to manifest itself. Drawing is a vital part of this process; it underpins all my work, particularly for understanding ‘form’. I am not interested in an academic approach to drawing and painting but a free and dynamic encounter with what I see, working through feeling. This gives me a sense of being in nature and the world and not outside of it.

Bio
I have exhibited widely, in London and the North and undertaken public and private commissions, mostly in mosaic in the UK and abroad. I also have a work in the Government Collection.
In addition, I have taught adults, drawing, painting, life drawing and mosaic throughout my career and at present teach a group in Kirkby, near Stokesley. I also undertake individual one to one teaching. My students range from beginners to artists who have degrees and are wanting to develop their work further.
